What tracks do you want to leave? Dakota Sioux Proverb

We will be known forever by the tracks we leave. Dakota Sioux Proverb

What kind of tracks or paths do you want to leave and be known for?

I came across this Native American proverb today, and it made me pause.

I’m a fairly self-aware person, so I usually know when I’m leaving tracks I’m proud of, and when I’d rather cover them up.

I’m mostly proud of my tracks, or the paths I leave.

I’m generally a good person. It’s important to respect myself and others. I continue to learn and optimize my life. And, I try to motivate, inspire, and provide practical ways to help people feel truly alive and fulfilled.

There are some paths I leave behind, that I’m not proud of. The times when I’m impatient with myself and others, and the moments when I think or say things that aren’t aligned with who I want to be.

Although there might be people who only leave paths that they’re happy with, most of us leave behind a mix.

If you’d like to lay down better tracks or paths, here’s one way to do it.

The next time you’re in a situation where you are likely to leave behind broken promises, unkind thoughts or words, or doubt in someone about their abilities or possibilities, pause.

Picture in your mind an image of whether what you’re about to do, think, or say will lay down a solid, safe board on a wooden path, or whether it’s unsafe to walk on because it’s rotten or damaged.

We don’t have control over all the things that happen to us. We do have control over how we choose to respond to a situation.

We can choose the kinds of paths we leave behind us.

What do you want to leave behind you and be known for?

I want to leave behind me paths lined with love, infused with the belief that you can create an amazing life for yourself, and practical ways to make that happen!
